Happy D.E.A.R. Day!

Today, students across the country are celebrating "Drop Everything and Read" Day, the one day where, for a short period of time, the craziness of the school schedule is put aside and kids get to relax and read for enjoyment.

Let's face it. The family lifestyle just isn't conducive to this activity. From piano lessons, to soccer practice, to tae-kwon-do workouts, we parents are all rushing to the next activity of the day. Even you single readers have a schedule that is often times overbooked.

Whenever I have one second to think during my day, I often dream of just going up to my bed, taking out the book I am trying to keep up with at the time, and just simply reading - for pleasure. But then I feel guilty - I could be cleaning the bathroom, doing the laundry, addressing the weeds in the yard.

But today, let us all celebrate DEAR day and set aside just a few minutes to really enjoy the pleasure of reading a good book. Who knows? It might just make us more productive the rest of the day!
